RF Microneedling
A powerful blend of microneedling & radiofrequency makes this the ultimate solution in skin rejuvenation.
Fractional RF Microneedling involves creating micro punctures into the skin, which breaks down old scar tissue, stimulates melanin production for a smoother skin tone and creates fresh new collagen and elastin. Radiofrequency is delivered directly to the lower levels of the dermis through gold plated needles, making this among the most advanced technologies available for contouring and tightening the face, neck, hands and body, producing immediate results with minimal discomfort and downtime.

RF Microneedling
In Detail
Microneedling uses very small needles to make tiny perforations in the skin, reaching the top layers of the dermis. RF microneedling adds the delivery of focused radiofrequency wavelengths to the deeper layers of the skin, designed to kick-start the healing process and encourage long-term collagen and elastin production. The fractional technique uses 25 – 50 needles that create microscopic channels at precise depths in the dermis of the skin that stay open for up to four to six hours. Depending on the skin laxity and area being treated, our specialist will select an appropriate penetration depth ranging from 0.5mm – 3.5mm deep depending on your individual needs.
Microneedle electrodes deliver minimally invasive RF thermal energy deep within the dermis, without causing damage. Natural wound healing mechanisms are stimulated by this deeper multilevel RF energy, promoting the remodeling of collagen, elastin and wound contraction, enhancing skin laxity. The skin naturally responds by making new collagen-rich tissue, which tightens loose skin, reduces scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and open pores, thus improving the overall texture and appearance of the skin.
RF Microneedling also stimulates the production of melanin within your skin, which is what’s responsible for your natural skin tone. This makes it a particularly effective treatment to break down old scar tissue and push skin cell generation to even out skin tone. Due to it’s versatility, it has quickly become the ‘go to’ treatment for a wide variety of scars, including:
- Acne scars
- Stretch marks
- Surgery & injury scars
- Hair transplant scars
- Self-harm scars
- Sunken scars
- Thermal burn scars
- Hypertrophic scars (raised & white)
(Red / purple keloid scarring is the only type that is not suitable for treatment. Scars need to be fully healed before you can have treatment).
Regular microneedling uses very small needles to make tiny perforations in the skin and reach the upper layers of the dermis. RF microneedling however adds the delivery of highly focused radiofrequency wavelengths to the deeper layers of the skin, kick-starting the healing process and encouraging long-term collagen and elastin production. The fractional technique uses between 25 – 80 needles to create these microscopic channels at precise depths that stay open for 4 – 6 hours.
Natural wound healing mechanisms are stimulated by this deeper multilevel RF energy and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue. This tightens loose skin and reduces scars, wrinkles, enlarged pores and stretch marks ; thus improving the overall texture and appearance of the skin.
RF Microneedling also stimulates the production of melanin, which is responsible for a healthy looking skin tone. This is what makes it a particularly effective treatment for scars, as it breaks down old scar tissue and replacing it with healthy melanin rich cells, replenishing a naturally balanced skin tone. Due to its effectiveness, it has quickly become the ‘go to’ treatment for a wide variety of scars, including:
- Acne scars
- Stretch marks
- Surgery & injury scars
- Hair transplant scars
- Self-harm scars
- Sunken scars
- Thermal burn scars
- Hypertrophic scars (raised & white)
(Red / purple keloid scarring is the only type that this is not suitable for treatment. Also, scars must be fully healed before undergoing treatment).
RF Microneedling FAQ
You may experience redness or mild swelling (similar to slight sunburn) for the next 1 – 2 days, as well as a slight possibility of slight bleeding and pinpoint crusts forming. Sensitive areas around the eyes can take longer to fully recover. You can go back to regular activities immediately after treatment, although you may want 1 – 2 days recovery, until the red markings disappear.
For maximum benefits the general consensus is that 3 – 4 treatments is most appropriate, however for thermal burns, stretch marks and deeper scarring, you may be more satisfied with 5 – 6 treatments.
Usually, you will see results within 2 – 4 weeks, with continued results developing as collagen and elastin production are boosted. You can expect to see a gradual improvement for complexion issues and skin tone over the course of 3 – 4 months after your final session.
The collagen created will last at up to 7 years, however due to the natural process of aging, you can expect your results to last up to 2 – 3 years. This is variable depending on the overall skin health, smoking habits, age, sun exposure and lifestyle.
For scars, the results are generally permanent and you will not need to have any further treatments, with the exception of further damage to the skin such as stretch marks.
Standard treatments require about 3 – 4 weeks recovery, while deeper treatments for scarring or stretch marks may require 4 – 6 weeks between sessions. Follow up treatments can be performed every 12 – 18 months to maintain optimal results.
RF Microneedling is considered a very safe procedure as it is non-invasive with minimal risk and downtime. In addition, the needles used are gold plated, making the treatment safe and accessible to those with metal allergies.
RF Microneedling treatments are generally pain free, although you may feel a little discomfort in areas that are closer to the bone, such as the forehead, cheeks and jawline. A numbing cream can be applied 60 minutes before your treatment to minimise the pain.
Two Weeks Before Treatment
- Include a good cleansing and moisturising routine.
- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen and try to avoid excessive sun exposure.
- Do not undergo abrasive skin treatments, aesthetic fillers, injectables or laser treatments.
Two Days Before Treatment
- Avoid alcohol or coffee consumption as this can dehydrate the skin.
- Avoid abrasive scrubs, exfoliants, facial masks, self-tanners, bleaching or skin-lightening agents. This includes prescription skincare products, such as adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, Retin-A or Tazorac.
- Avoid any active skin care, such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, AHA and BHA.
- Avoid waxing, electrolysis or any depilatory hair removal products or methods.
- Avoid blood thinning medication or auto-immune therapies (please consult with the physician first if unsure)
- Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil as these can interfere with the natural inflammatory process needed for skin rejuvenation.
- For those prone to cold sore breakouts – we advise using Zovirax, Valtrex or a similar medication a few days before and after treatment.
On The Day
- Drink lots of water as this will hydrate your skin.
- Remove make-up prior to facial treatments.
- Avoid shaving 4 hours before treatment.
Do not touch – Try to avoid touching the treatment area for 6 hours after the treatment.
Ice Pack – You may use an ice pack to lessen the discomfort, bruising and swelling, but place a thin cloth like a dishtowel between the ice pack and your skin and apply only in 5-minute intervals.
Moisturise and hydrate – As RF Microneedling temporarily compromises your skin’s outer layer, it’s important to reinforce your skin with a moisturiser. Also, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration which can make your skin feel excessively tight. This will also help speed up the elimination of toxins.
Aftercare Ointments – Use only the advised aftercare ointments, applying with either a cotton bud or finger tips of thoroughly washed hands.
Apply SPF50 sunscreen – Your skin will be more exposed and susceptible to UV damage immediately post treatment. Refrain from prolonged direct sun exposure for the following weeks after a treatment if you can.
Avoid strenuous workouts, dry saunas & steam rooms – Increased blood circulation to the face can intensify warming, tingling, itching or redness immediately after treatment. Try to avoid these activities on the day of your treatment.
Don’t over-exfoliate – You should not use any exfoliants such as scrubs, brushes or exfoliating cleansers within 3 – 4 days of your treatment.
Avoid abrasive treatments – Avoid all abrasive treatments such as Microdermabrasion or HydraFacials for at least 2 weeks after your treatment. Also avoid irritants such as glycolics, acids or retinoids until the redness or swelling resolves.
Avoid makeup – Avoid makeup for 24 – 48 hours. If you must, mineral based makeups can be used to cover the facial redness that may occur.
Avoid blood thinners – You can help minimize bruising by avoiding blood thinners, like aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or green tea and some herbal supplements for the following week after your treatment.
Sleeping upright – For 1 – 2 days, sleeping on your back with your head somewhat elevated may help to lessen swelling and bruising.
The following conditions must be disclosed prior to treatment.
- On blood thinning medication, such as warfarin, heparin or aspirin
- Any form of abrasive treatment, use of aesthetic fillers, injectables or laser treatments 2 weeks prior to treatment
- An active infection in the treatment area or skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema or rashes
- Have hypertrophic or keloid scarring
- Platelet dysfunction syndrome
- If you use a pacemaker
- Critical thrombocytopenia or low platelet count
- Haematological disorders or concurrent infections
- Who have immunosuppression
- Undergoing chemotherapy
- Wounded, sunburned or excessively sensitive skin
- Open lesions or active cold sores
- Severe rosacea or acne
- A history of recurrent herpes simplex
- Presence of raised moles in the treatment area
- An autoimmune disease such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis or scleroderma
- Melanoma or lesions suspected of malignancy
- Women who are pregnant or actively breastfeeding
- Use of Accutane, Retin-A or other medications that exfoliate or thin the skin within 6 months
- Telangiectasia/erythema may be worsened or brought out by skin exfoliation
- Use of topical tretinoin or acne treatments such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid within 48 hours
- Have a history of keloid scarring, abnormal wound healing or fragile skin
- Medications, herbal preparations, vitamins or food supplements that may cause fragile or dry skin
Scars will need to be healed before you are able to have a RF microneedling treatment. Scars that are still going through their natural healing process are not suitable for treatment.
Keloid scarring is not suitable for treatment. Keloid scarring is where the scar tissue grows outside of the wound site and is often red/purple in colour. This type of scarring is often confused with hypertrophic scars, which are white and raised.
