Plasma Fibroblast
In Detail
Fibroblast skin tightening is a revolutionary new procedure that provides an alternative to skin tightening without necessitating dangerous surgical procedures or missing weeks of work post-procedure. Plasma Fibroblast is among the world’s most advanced non invasive, skin lifting, skin tightening and rejuvenation treatments available.
When undergoing treatment, your esthetician uses a handheld device called a plasma pen during the procedure. This precision device is fitted with an metal probe which enables the transfer of energy to the skin by utilizing the atmospheric gas between its tip and the skin, thus generating a plasma charge. This transfer of energy occurs at a distance of approximately 0.5 mm from the skin, which means the applicator tip never comes into direct contact with the skin.
A plasma arc is then created, similar to a tiny lightning bolt, which disrupts the dermal structure via thermal conduction. In doing so, a dual zone of micro-trauma is created of thermal damage to the outer epidermis and simultaneously a deeper inner thermal modification occurs in the dermis and in particular to the fibroblast cells within. The visible result of the treatment is a thermal skin reaction in an arrangement of dots. Each plasma spot creates an effect radius that contracts the skin in the immediate vicinity and with multiple dots aligned, an effect grid is created which causes a significant tightening of the overall targeted area. The overall effect is a more youthful-looking appearance as your skin continues to tighten and improve over the following weeks.

Plasma Fibroblast FAQ
Immediately after treatment your skin will be red and slightly swollen. You will continue to experience some swelling and a little soreness for 2 – 3 days after the procedure, particularly in the eye area. The treated area will be covered with small crusts that will fall off over 5 – 7 days. You may continue to see slight redness for up to 14 days.
Downtime depends on your working situation and lifestyle. You can resume your normal schedule within 1 – 2 days, but you will have dots for up to a week. A mineral base make-up can be used however to reduce their visibility.
This can vary depending on the area being treated, the condition of the skin and the individual’s desired degree of correction. In most cases only one treatment is required, however 1 – 2 follow up treatments can be carried out where a considerable aount of tightening is required.
Tightening of the treatment area will be seen and felt immediately post procedure. As cell turnover occurs and the production of collagen increases, you will see continued improvements over the course of 4 – 8 weeks.
As fibroblast actually reduces skin volume, you can expect results to last as long as typical invasive surgery. Just as with any surgical or cosmetic procedure, the effects are not entirely permanent as it does not prevent further aging, however the positive results can be expected to last 3 – 5 years.
We recommend waiting 6 – 8 weeks before having an additional treatment, if you desire further tightening. To best maintain these results, a follow up treatment can be performed every 12 – 18 months thereafter.
The treatment is very safe due to its non-invasive nature. It has a negligible risk of possible side effects or serious complications.
Most clients find it to be moderately painful but tolerable. Those with lower pain tolerance may find it quite painful, whilst others may feel barely any pain at all. A topical numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area up to 60 minutes before the procedure to minimise pain.
Two Weeks Before Treatment
- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen and try to avoid excessive sun exposure.
- Do not undergo abrasive skin treatments, aesthetic fillers, injectables or laser treatments.
Two Days Before Treatment
- Avoid alcohol or coffee consumption as this can dehydrate the skin.
- Avoid abrasive scrubs, exfoliants, facial masks, self-tanners, bleaching or skin-lightening agents. This includes prescription skincare products, such as adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, Retin-A or Tazorac.
- Avoid any active skin care, such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, AHA and BHA.
- Avoid waxing, electrolysis or any depilatory hair removal products or methods.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil as these can interfere with the natural inflammatory process needed for skin rejuvenation.
- For those prone to cold sore breakouts – we advise using Zovirax, Valtrex or a similar medication a few days before and after treatment.
On The Day
- Drink lots of water as this will hydrate your skin.
- Remove make-up prior to facial treatments.
- Avoid shaving 4 hours before treatment.
Plan your downtime – We recommend a few days at home to let the swelling go down before venturing out to important meetings, special occasions or school runs etc. You may wish to arrange your appointment during annual leave, especially if your job requires you to look presentable.
Do not pick – Try to avoid touching the treatment area for 6 hours after the treatment and DO NOT pick at any scabbing that may occur over the following weeks. You must let it fall off naturally.
Avoid moisture – Try to avoid getting the area until crusts have healed; covering the treated area whilst bathing or showering. Try not to allow the crusts to soften by moisture; avoid swimming, soaking or steaming. If exposed to moisture, gently dab the area with a paper towel and leave it to air dry.
Aftercare Ointments – Use only the advised aftercare ointments, applying with either a Cotton Bud or finger tips of thoroughly washed hands.
Ice Pack – You may use an ice pack to lessen the discomfort, bruising and swelling, but place a thin cloth like a dishtowel between the ice pack and your skin and apply only in 5-minute intervals.
Apply SPF50 sunscreen – Your skin will be more exposed and susceptible to UV damage immediately post treatment. Refrain from prolonged direct sun exposure for the following weeks after a treatment.
Don’t exfoliate – You should not use any exfoliants such as scrubs, brushes or exfoliating cleansers until there are no crusts remaining.
Avoid abrasive treatments – Avoid all abrasive treatments such as Microdermabrasion or HydraFacials for at least 2 weeks after your treatment.
Avoid makeup – Avoid makeup for 24 – 48 hours. If you must, mineral based makeups can be used to cover the facial redness that may occur.
Avoid blood thinners – You can help minimize bruising by avoiding blood thinners, like aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or green tea and some herbal supplements for the following week after your treatment.
Sleeping upright – For 1 – 2 days, sleeping on your back with your head somewhat elevated may help to lessen swelling and bruising.
The following conditions must be disclosed prior to treatment.
- On blood thinning medication, such as warfarin, heparin or aspirin
- Any form of abrasive treatment, use of aesthetic fillers, injectables or laser treatments 2 weeks prior to treatment
